afterthefallen:

This image represents my past, present, and future.  The top represents my past and the bottom my present and future.  The bat is creating a fog over my memories and the squid holds back the fog.

This image is really interesting I love the graphic feel to it. I know you love longboarding and I do to so seeing you incorporate that to your work makes me happy. I wonder if you actually drew the bat and squid I hope to hear you talk about that in class. The quote fits the image perfectly also so great job! Its a very simplistic way to say what you want to say and I like that because I am all about simplicity. Having the quote red and the rest black and white really makes it pop! overall great job this was a really good project!

Final Project
I wanted my last project to be a less serious note than the previous ones. I decided to go with the idea that you are what you eat and make a person made out of food. Some of the food I used is Brazilian so a lot of people might not recognize it, but they are delicious fried food from my country. I am happy with the end result of my work!

wow this image is awesome!! I don’t really know most of the foods on this picture but the way that you put it all together is fascinating. The colors all match together and from far away it just looks like a regular picture. I can tell you put a lot of work towards this image, It might have been cool to be able to see the whole face but this placement isn’t bad either. You also made it more personal making it foods from back home so thats pretty cool you could do a whole gallery with these kinds of pictures with different cultures and foods. Great job!

'Imogen'

'Go West'

'Butoh Nobuyoshi Asai'

'Smoking Clown'

By: John K Goodman

John Goodman is a photographer living in Los Angeles who takes captivating pictures of deconstructed realism. When I look at these photographs I start thinking of the stories that they tell and the emotion that each one of them have. The high quality of these images sink me in even further because if viewed on a large screen you just feel like you are actually seeing it in real life. The first picture ‘Imogen’ to me is the most powerful of the group, the girls bright blue eyes stand out in her dirty attire and I just want to know more of the reason and place that the picture was taken. ‘Go West’ I relate to because I love skateboarding and the picture gives of a very “California” vibe. The third image is also very powerful, the positioning, the detail, the exhaustion/pain in his face its just overall a great image. And lastly the ‘Smoking Clown’ I had to include this picture because to me it brings a sort of humor to the group. I really enjoy John K Goodman’s work and if you do too I recommend you search for some more!

Reading Response 4

Both Michael Robinson’s and Ed Adkin’s videos are quit different and strange from any that I have seen before. The first time I saw “The General Returns From One Place To Another” I just wanted to fall asleep from how boring and pointless it seemed to me. The text that would appear had no meaning to me and the visuals just seemed like he went to a forest and filmed a bunch of random stuff and called it a video. “Death Mask 3” was the same at first I found it pointless and boring but by halfway through it when it had the lady in white by the beach I started to find it a bit more interesting. Even though I didn’t understand it and I found no meaning to it, it gave this creepy vibe that I really liked so I watched with interest for the rest of the video.

The second time viewing these video’s I actually sat there with an open mind with headphones in and decided to see where it would take me. Again Michael Robinson’s video bored me and I tried really hard to find something I liked but I guess it just wasn’t my style. I tried to find a deeper meaning to the text that he adds randomly in the video talking about beauty and other things but I just couldn’t see it. The title didn’t make sense to me either it started with the woman standing there and also ended that way so maybe thats what he meant by “Returns To One Place” but still it was hard for me to find the message he was trying to put across. The second time watching Ed Adkin’s film gave me a better experience. The audio was definitely better with headphones in and even though I found no deeper meaning to his video I appreciated the very dark eerie vibe that I got while watching it. Its an experience I feel people on shrooms would have because of all the sounds and colors and weirdness.

Both of these artist incorporate text into their work but they do it in a very different way. Michael was actually trying to say something in his and writing full sentences and ideas where Ed was just adding text to aid in the visual effect of his video, at least thats what I think. Michael is trying harder to put in a deeper meaning which I know there probably is one I just didn’t understand it and Ed is going more for providing an experience. In comparison they both make their videos in ways that don’t really give the viewer much to start with like when you first watch it you don’t really know what its about or predict whats going to happen you just have to sit through it and see how you feel about it in the end.

Overall these videos were defiantly different from the usual but for me it was not very enjoyable. I watched them twice and it was alright but its not something that I would just put on one day because I’m bored. The only thing I would say I enjoyed from this reading assignment is the second part of Ed’s video, the way he filmed it and put it all together put on a vibe that I would incorporate into my videos.

Kara Walker

Kara is a contemporary African-American artist who explores race, gender, sexuality, violence and identity in her work. Her work generally consists of room size tableaux of black cut paper silhouettes and they are really big. I really enjoy her use of silhouettes I think that its a very powerful way to get your message across by being simplistic. For being paper cut she really goes into a lot of detail with all the smooth edges they seem to have been made on the computer. The first picture has to be my favorite because it reminds me of something straight off of a Tim Burton movie. She uses a lot of symbolism and small objects in big pictures to really get her message across. The walls at the gallery are filled with these sorts of images. It is worth looking at more of her artwork.

Technoscape project

Your images are very unique you really took this project to another level. I think what your trying to say with these images is that even though you are far away from your family, with the use of technology like Ipads and Skype, you can feel like your at home and not miss out on events that your family is having. You appear to be in every picture but its not really you its an Ipad with your face and a cartoon body. Its like even if your not there physically, you can still be a part of those moments. Being from Mexico and having all my relatives living there I know the feeling and you express it in these pictures perfectly. You did a very good job on this project thank you for sharing them!

Project 3

I really like your pictures! It wasn’t until the last image that I noticed anything different about these pictures and when I saw what you were doing I went back and just laughed because I understood what you were doing and its so subtle that it makes these images great. I can tell your trying to show how technology has advance throughout eras and combining old vintage photographs with technology that they didn’t have at that time. Great work with the Photoshop it honestly looks like those machines would belong there especially with the first image I can tell you put a lot of hard work into these. Having them black and white really adds to the whole picture too because it gives it a more older age vibe to them. Great work!

Dasic is a street artist that creates amazing large-scale outdoor murals, paintings, and sculptures all throughout New York where he resides. He has a wide variety of different styles but one thing that you can notice from all of his works is how they explode with color. He really takes street art and makes it pop right in front of you so that you can’t help but to stop and admire. He doesn’t name any of his pieces but the one that really inspires me the most is the last one with the man wearing the sky patterned cloth over his face. The detail and depth that he put into the mans face combined with the fact that it is painted on a brick wall just makes this mural aesthetically amazing. The one thats goes through the ceiling and into the wall reminds me of an illusion because it seems like your looking at one single picture looking up but in reality you are looking at an underside of a tunnel. Overall Dasic’s work is very inspiring and has really opened my eyes to how beautiful street art can be. I hope he keeps making more and more art and inspire a lot more people.
